ENGINEER BITE PROJECT
INTRO
I think in Art the art we make or create we want things to be perfect, and a piece of working progress that can stand the test, of time where we as Artists want more time than we would like, but between working a nine to five, and living in a world of responsibilities life goes on, and no excuses at all what needs to be done in ones life, so for I have created this Blog Post called
( THE BITE SIZED MEAL) , as a blog to show viewers like yourselves where maybe you feel, you don't have enough time in your day, and you want to create a project from start to finish, this is project called the ENGINE ROOM, where I have made a character in a room, fixing an engine, in environment, where
the colour does match him, and I've got the process of this whole project drawn out from rough
sketched to using Photoshop to perfect the images in Photoshop, to be used as textures, to be placed in a 3D environment. the Software Packages I use are ( PHOTOSHOP AND MAYA)
MY GOAL : To show a very smooth process step by step on how traditional Art and 3D Art do combine to co exist together, in a world that's created from scratch. The goal is not to aim for perfection, but more to aim to create something, and complete it, within 3 days or less.
STAGE 1 BELOW
I start off drawing some rough layout sketches, of the Engineer character, and a some initial sketches of the environment, of where the engineer will be working within the environment of the Engineer, as well sketches the assets of this character, such the tool box, and a boiler, an engine, all are sketched here.
STAGE 4 BELOW
This is the beginning to make the environment, where I have begun to open Maya and I have made a square which is easy to make in Maya by using the Maya square tool making this shape.

STAGE 5 BELOW
Next Stage I made a space in the in the box, which was easy to do, and this going to be the snide of the engine room for the character and the assets to live in .

STAGE 8 BELOW

Scroll down the attributes bar and the next image you want to see is this, look at the special effects line, hit the drop down arrow, make sure the selection of the circle in 3d view is still selected and push the special affect leaver up and then when you hit the render button which is this

STAGE 21 BELOW
I think in Art the art we make or create we want things to be perfect, and a piece of working progress that can stand the test, of time where we as Artists want more time than we would like, but between working a nine to five, and living in a world of responsibilities life goes on, and no excuses at all what needs to be done in ones life, so for I have created this Blog Post called

STAGE 2 BELOW
Within this next stage I draw the assets in neat, in Photoshop, to be edited in colour in Photoshop ready to be put into the 3D environment, where to also speed up things I borrowed the character from one of my illustrations pictures which you can see below, although I borrowed the character from this
illustration of mine done from a previous project, I still felt it was very important to re frame the character almost if was a new character, to remind my self I had to change the character posture to attempt to fix something like an engine being fixed.
so below here you can see all the assets to the characters are layed out on a page in Photoshop, taken from the rough sketch page, to the Photoshop page to do up in neat, usually i use ink pens and pencils to a page like this to plan my illustrations and then put the neat inked pages on a scanner to upload on
a PC, to edit in Photoshop, but this time round i pretty much made everything in the computer in Photoshop to really just cut the time, to see what I can create to be more efficient with my time, i know I can draw better with more time, but i know I've been guilty in the past with starting a project not
finishing the project, and the same project, stays on my desktop and all of a sudden its forgotten because i lost inspiration, or another reason, so this blog as well as this blog is really for me to share with you guys as my viewers, its really also for me to prove to myself, that I can start something and finish it.
STAGE 3 BELOW
Here is the coloured in page, and here you have a coloured in textured UV Mapp of Maya box, which is the image in in black, shaped like a TOWER with squares, and next to below you see the same shape drawn in pink black stripes, this is the TEXTURE that will be used on the BLACK UV mapp to project this texture into the 3D world in Maya.
The UV mapp that has small square boxes with a black background, this image is what you would use from MAYA, as a 3D package, where you would save this image as a JPG on your desktop, and then open this same image up in Photoshop to edit this image in a way, I have coloured in this image
in pink and black stripes, where as you go ahead on this journey on seeing how this whole image as a peice of art comes together, between Traditional Art, and digital art coming together.

From stage 3 where you have the character as an Engineer and the assets of the environment, on page, from the tool, Box the Boiler, the engine, and the textures of the box and environment, now you can see the texture on the 3d box as the environment where we will characters here.
SAGE 8 BELOW
The next stage is to make a point of reference of a light bulb on the ceiling, and can do this by clicking maya shape section and make a spherical shape, and scale it down to the you want it, and it will look like the grey ball, that you can see on the ceiling.
The thing I added to this environment I add SPHERICAL SHAPE TO THE SCENE, what I did was
on the Maya Tool Line strip
once you made the ball, ( resize ball ) with this tool with this side of the tool box

shaped as a ball, you can see very Faintly that I added some colour to the ball, and how I did this,
I Click on the ball, and right clicked on the mouse, and click in the drop down menu, add attributes,
and in attributes you should a Materials drop down menu of different material names, and the one you want is ( LAMBERT).
The next stage is we must add a glow to this Light bulb to give it an illumination of light that shines, and how I did this is when you click the light bulb
you click on the ball and see the selection of the ball, and then you click the very first to your left icon that you see down below, it looks like a like with __----___ this kinda hump image.
Once you have clicked this ___---__ you will see an Attribute box drop down that something like this below, here you can see a ball that's circle shaped when you see this, this is where you wanna be.
and then when you hit the render button you should see a RENDER mini box, that will show you the render image of the environment with the light bulb.
